“Why are BMW drivers not required to indicate?” or even “Why are BMW drivers jerks?”* are just two shocking Google searches that are (apparently) commonly associated with the marque when it comes to online searches.
New research has revealed that BMW drivers have the worst reputation amongst UK motorists, with 82% of survey respondents stating that they disliked BMW drivers, 80% said that they expected BMW drivers to be aggressive behind the wheel, and rather randomly, 34% of those questioned also stated that they wouldn’t even consider dating a BMW owner.
And as we’ve already seen, the research reveals more than just the statistical answers to their questions, with the extra insight into search engine requests. Fascinating.
Arrogant Audi
We reported last year that upmarket Audis seem to top the list of recognised speeders, and surprisingly, they’re only third on the list of disliked drivers, with just 50% of respondents disliking them, although 71% said they felt that Audi drivers would be fast drivers.
“Why are Audi drivers so arrogant?” and “Why are Audi drivers so bad?” are two of the popular searches related to the marque, and 14% of those questioned would never go on a date with an Audi driver.
Of course, for the main part, this research is purely subjective; it’s about the perceived perception of different brands, although in the case of the speeding Audis, statistical evidence does back that perception, to a degree.
Toyotas are friendly
If you’re on the lookout for another car, and genuinely pay heed to research such as this, then your choice of vehicle should be Toyota – just 10% of the survey group said they disliked Toyotas, although 60% said that there was an issue with them driving too slowly, and if you’re single the news is good; 85% said they would date someone that owned a Toyota.
Popular Google search? “Why are Toyota drivers so slow?”.
Other brands came out favourably also – Volvo in particular did pretty well in the poll, with 80% claiming that Volvo drivers were safe behind the wheel (although if you’d have asked a motorcyclist, that figure would have probably been much less, rightly or wrongly).
Light-hearted fun
On the face of it, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of useful information, as already stated, for the main part it’s subjective (although the Google searches do hold a level of accuracy), and knowing whether you’re likely to score a date or not due to your car choice is hardly the stuff of Jane Austen or Lord Byron.
We should also consider that for the brands listed (including BMW, Audi, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Volkswagen and Volvo), there is always going to be an element of distaste toward them; they’re all popular car brands, that sell many units every year (Volkswagen sold just under 40,000 vehicles in the single month of March in 2019).
Just by the very nature of the amount sold, you’re going to encompass a vast selection of drivers and driving styles, and it’s highly likely that a percentage of those drivers are going to be … less inclined toward societal benefit.
Autofill
It seems that potentially, the Google search enquiry information was nothing more than using Google autofill, you can try that yourself – head to Google and type in “Why are XXX drivers (use your favoured, or least favoured marque)” and wait for Google to return the most popular searches in the search bar.
This just lends credence to the fact that the research was aimed more as a light-hearted view into the mind of the UK motorist, rather than anything with scientific or relevant merit.
The reality is that we’re lucky to have the different choices of vehicles and marques; it’s possible to choose from a wide range of cars that can offer us everything from the ability to crawl through a rain forest, to transporting the largest of families, or even just heading out for a sunny Sunday drive when we feel like it.
Of course there will always be an element of being tarred with the same brush (I’m as guilty as the next man for doing that), but that doesn’t matter – why limit your vehicle choice because of what others may think of it? It seems to me that many of the respondents are accounting for the ‘flash’ factor when giving their answer, and honestly … if you’re a petrolhead that’s fallen in love with a specific model or brand, a few naysayers won’t put you off.
* ‘Jerk’ is very much an American colloquialism, so perhaps the problem is wider than anticipated.
What do you think of the study? Do you think it’s accurate? Are BMW drivers the scourge of the UK road network, or is this hype? Let us know in the comments.

Yes you are right about BMW drivers a very high percentage are arrogant rude and pushy and tailgate and drive very selfishly,
A small percentage of BMW drivers are nice.
thanks you must mean me being one of the small percentage 🙂
Barry
Probably because the vehicle they are following is pottering at 20mph under the speed limit, not paying attention to the road.
another idiot reply
It’s a limit not a target.
The definition of “futility” is being the man who puts indicator bulbs into BMWs!
Please don’t categories ALL BMW drivers the same as a few idiot ones. I find the most annoying drivers are the ones who have no idea about the rules or any common sense and for example, sit it the outside (or middle) lane of motorways when there is a clear space where they should be , on the inside lane. They seem to believe that as long as they are not exceeding the speed limit, they have every right to be there! Totally inconsiderate and the reason I’m sure, that many other drivers get annoyed, regardless of what make of vehicle they are driving.
This is so true see it every day even at 3am driving on an empty motorway and there is a car sat in lane 3 or 4.
You even see many drivers enter the motorway and cross straight to lane 3 regardless of if lane 1 and 2 are empty.
I think we have a serious problem with many drivers not knowing the rules of driving on a motorway but having said that they should know them.
Rule 264
You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking. You MUST NOT drive on the hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by the police, traffic officers in uniform or by signs
And most of them are females driving small cars, usually Peugeots
That will be BMW drivers then.
No Mark, But they sure do think they are
The one I heard was that the manufacturers of BMW, Audi and Mercedes were going to design their cars without indicators because their customers never used them…..
Good comment.
I dont generally like the lumping of All “Insert type of person here” are bad, but it does seem noticable that Audi and BMW drivers have a higher than average percentage of idiots amongst them.
An interesting question would be is this now a self fulfilling statement as I would be very reluctant to purchase either of the types of vehicles.
Your fathfully
Strictly a speed limit guy.
I was sadly involved in a crash with a BMW driver earlier in the year and the other driver clearly caused the crash by driving too fast for the type of road we were on, not slowing down on the approach to a sharp bend and then veering on to my side of the road prior to the head-on collision. He thinks that claiming his car skidded on ice is a reasonable excuse but my dashcam footage proved otherwise.
I am happy enough driving a Ford Focus, and don’t see what a BMW or Audi does that my Focus doesn’t. If anything, Most BMW, Audi, Mercedes and VW drivers are complete morons.
Audi drivers, why not pull your seat forward and you’ll be even closer to the car in front.
Audi drivers, why not pull your seat forward and then you’ll be even closer to the car in front.
All total rubbish. There are bad, inconsiderate, drivers in all marks of cars.
Just as likely to to see a Fiesta driver fail to use indicators correctly as one in a BMW or Audi.
How many drivers use their indicators – correctly – when on a round about .?
Far fewer than half in my experience.
Indicate on a round about ???
They believe they do not need to as they are going round rather than turning.
Do not forget the fact that not only do they not indicate they are also in the wrong lane to make there exit.
I am a female BMW driver I always indicate on roundabouts.
But I am noticing when I do. I get ALL sorts mainly men jumping on the roundabout when I want to exit.
Making near miss crashes. Because in some strange idea they think me and them can be in the same place (on the roadabout) at the same time. NOT POSSIBLE!!! Thats called an accident waiting to happen
What is a “near miss crash”? Surely it’s either a near miss or a crash?
OK so you indicate on roundabouts, but do you indicate correctly? Seeing someone indicate right when entering a roundabout, only to change that to left as soon as they have passed the first exit, is not uncommon.
How many people know how to take roundabouts at all? I’ve seen so many people approach them in the left hand lane, only to go all the way round (often without indicating), cutting across other drivers who are seeking to exit said roundabout. I don’t know how they survive, quite frankly.
Everyday I see inept roundabout manoeuvres by drivers of all groups. Personally the worst of these groups are people driving Honda Jazzes or Nissan Micras and their indicators don’t work either.
I have noticed this too!!
Roundabout- Drivers in wrong lane, cutting into others lane (that are in the correct lane) people not having enough patience!!! for you to go past them before the add themselves on the roadabout too. Just throwing themselves on!!
The way people drive these days is shocking, nasty and inconsiderate!!!!! And makes me sick.
I passed my driving test in the 90’s and God things have changed, selfish driving, quick glances then shooting on to the road in front of you, no glances and shooting in front of you, bad timing lane changes, last minute motorway lane changes reducing breaking distance to near nothing and slamming brakes on.
Drivers just sees a little space and think they should last minute lane change into it WHAT ABOUT THE PERSON WHO’S ALREADY IN IT??
Then they stay in it all of 3 secs then they lane change again because its not moving fast enough. If you looked AHEAD you could judge by the other cars & brake lights, the speed, the distance and that, that lane isn’t going to carry you any further or quicker up the road.
Driving in the UK has gone to pot was crap drivers. Sometimes I dread my journeys in my car.
Haha I always wonder how they survive.
Half the time I am the only person indicating at a roundabout hahah stick out like a sore thumb, Why don’t people indicate at roundabouts anymore?
Envy often comes into the equation. There are good drivers and bad drivers in all makes of cars. When next driving make a note of all the bad drivers of other makes of cars. And no, I don’t own a high end car.
Not sure why it would be Envy most BMW owner are company or lease and it is not hard to lease a BMW not even hard to own one, you do not need to be in the Money there no longer a symbol of status all the drug dealers drive them.
A lot of pimps drive them too. Our office is in a red light area and the girls pimps are ALWAYS in BMW or Audi, without fail.
Sorry but the majority I crap arrogant drivers I see are those that drive German cars. The reason being is that most are bosses, sales people and well off people. These are the people that tend to have narcissistic characteristics.
Well ,I drive an ride BMW. I also drive a m.a.n. 44 ton articulated wagon most days of the year. I always indicate my direction, I also use auto park in the car so no to blind someone behind me. I drive around 3500km a week all over the UK and see bad drivers, silly stunts and wrong indications, crashes, rear end shunts all the time. I don’t think its limited to one or two brands of car, honda jazz drives are old people who go so slow they may as well walk, white van man is always in a rush, an taxi drivers seam to go slower when empty than when full, bus drivers just pull out without a care. Police park were they want along with 4×4 mums in their (all 4’8″ of um) in their 6m car they can’t park to set down 2’3″ little Johnny. Also dust bin wagons always leave a trail of scattered debris behind. An finally cyclists who think they own the whole road but pay for none of it, you pass one give plenty of room, only for um to run a red light and be back in your bl#$dy way. See not one person, every one doing there own thing an not caring if it affects others, I’m alright jack attitude is what the problem is.
You forget to mention the 44 ton articulated wagon bad drivers, there are many out there
I also drive many miles per week and believe me the amount of 44 ton articulated wagon drivers I see texting/browsing social media is a disgrace, swerving onto the hard shoulder or into the lane next to them.
They think as they are high up no one can see what they are doing but you can when your own there level or even if you look from behind in the mirrors.
So its not all about the other bad drivers can you image the damage a 44 ton articulated wagon would do when it hits a stationary car, oh it has already been done and took a whole family out.
So maybe some of the other drivers you point out are good drivers regardless of age of vehicle.
The problem today on the roads is lack of Policing many drivers take the gamble and drive like idiots knowing not much chance they will be caught.
“Shed”: not all cyclists are utter nutters, although I concede that most Lycra Louts on their £2,500+ carbon fibre steeds deliberately try to prove you right. I’ve been “a Fat Git on a Bike” for 57 of my 65 years and still have all my limbs because I DON’T ride quickly (to avoid getting sweaty), on footways (I know that’s illegal), through red lights (someone on green WILL hurt me and, besides, I need the pauses at red signals to get my breath back). I don’t undertake any moving vehicle. I observe the Highway Code and respect the traffic around me because it’s invariably bigger, heavier and harder than I am. I just wish the surrounding drivers would do the same for cyclists. Many modern cars’ and vans’ nearside door mirrors are the same height as my right handlebar end and their drivers rarely appreciate how close those mirrors are when they pass me. Any contact is likely to put me in hospital, at least. You’re also wrong that cyclists “think they own the road but pay for none of it”. We pay VAT on our bikes, accessories, maintenance and repair products, tools, safety helmets, clothing, etc. Those taxes contribute to the national budgets which fund highway maintenance – not as much as I would like but that’s been a national problem for far longer than the “austerity” policy we’ve suffered for the past decade. The wear and tear that bicycles inflict on roads is microscopically small in comparison with normal cars, to say nothing of buses and lorries but, even if all our road traffic was by bikes, highways would still need periodical resurfacing because UK weather makes their bitumen “glue” decay to a useless powder.
Cyclists pay exactly the same to use the roads as you do.
Road Tax no longer exists, since about 1937? Local roads are paid for by local councils, funded via Council Tax. The Highways Agency funds Motorways and some larger highways.
V.E.D does not pay for roads.
No but VED payers contribute more than non VED payers.
Because of the damage they cause. P. S. I drive an Audi.
Mark it down all you like. It’s fact.
No they don’t, they don’t pay car insurance, tax on said insurance, fuel or tax on fuel, etc.
Cyclist – (not all) but some ride through red lights, one minute their on the pavement the next their riding in front or beside you no hand signals or even turn their head around to see what’s behind them, they don’t keeping up with road traffic speed. Or they’re riding as if they are on a country lane somewhere.
AND they don’t stick to the bike lane that has been built for them at everyones cost -(money or road disruption) reducing road lane size down to not alot.
A lot of the usual Daily Mail/Jeremy Clarkson untruths spouted there.
Most cyclists also own a car so do pay VED and insurance, often more per mile than your average motorists.
Many now have insurance for their bikes which can be incredibly expensive. This usually covers liability and injury costs as well, similar to a car insurance. Far cheaper than your average car one as they don’t cause nearly as many accidents though.
Many bike lanes are not really fit for purpose and are often used as parking or for undertaking by inconsiderate motorists. Traffic lights are often a mix of pedestrian and cyclists. Bike lanes themselves can switch from road to pavement frequently and many times over short distances.
I still see more cars on London’s road running through red to beat the lights than I do cyclists. I see cars overtake to turn left directly in front of the cyclist and yesterday, saw one gentleman reverse his car down a bike lane and hit a young woman quite legally cycling up it. He then promptly drove off (BMW of course)
A cyclist is simply someones child, sibling, parent, co-worker or even motorist just like any other road user.
The fact is cyclists are far more vulnerable as they are not encased in several tons of metal so surely the onus is on motorists be careful around them, giving them ample room and space rather than raging because you’ll be 30 secs late to the next traffic jam?
Chris, we get this every time. Its road tax, you need to pay it to drive on the road so its road tax. Changing the name doesn’t mean it’s not a tax. Do care if they shove it up their backsides, it’s a tax that you have to pay to drive on a public highway.
I was on your side until you mentioned cyclists, as a motorcyclist you should be all to aware of your and their vulnerability.
Ad, I am. It’s just cyclist don’t understand that I have just waited for a good spot to get my fully loaded hgv past only for them to ride up the inside an get back in my way at the lights. Just hold back a few seconds and let me go. If I have to stop for cars turning I wait a few more seconds to let everything else waiting to turn also as I’ve already stopped. Same as coming out of a junction an there is a que, why do people drive past to stop 5 yards past the junction when they could let you out? Others indicate to turn to late when you could have got out if they let you know early enough. Total selfish drivers are the reason for most traffic jams and accidents I see.
.
Very true, Shed. I see all sorts of ways that the various types, who do gravitate towards certain vehicle types/brands cause problems for others.
I use many modes of transport. I see how many HGV drivers are surprised and grateful when someone appears to have an understanding of the challenges they face.
What I can say is how vastly differently I am treated in urban conditions if on bicycle or motorbike. Similarly, switching between Honda Jazz, Alfa Romeo or Volvo (and occasionally BMW) really catches people out. People definitely have preconceived ideas of others which I have proven to be very incorrect. It can be fun though.
This is age old click-bait. All expensive luxury cars are disliked because people are jealous, powerful and sporty cars are always associated with speeding and antisocial behaviour… BMW hits both criteria… so results are obvious, but realistically chance of BMW or Audi driver committing offence or driving selfishly are the same as any other make if not lower. This is simple perception.
Actually, contrary I would argue that people in shit cars are generally tends to be worse drivers overall. This is easily explainable, if drivers doesn’t care about their cars, then they likely doesn’t care about driving overall. Then then question is… who is selfish – Peugeot drivers doing 60MPH in outside lane or BMW driver tailgating or undertaking him doing 75MPH? Did you know it outside lane is meant for overtaking only? Peugeot drivers generally don’t know…
I personally don’t drive BMW, but I there are several models which I would gladly drive, as it happens I hate Audi.. maybe with exception of S7/S5 (or RS), but that is just my personal dislike for brand – nothing to do with the way they are driven.
Hi there being a BMW driver myself I am surprised by these results as I have encountered bad drivers who drive all types of cars there is no brand out there that’s faultless . yes I grant you there maybe more that drive a particular brand But I really can’t see that there just BMW any Audi drivers! My own problems have been with red micra drivers yes those that drive red ones only, they don’t indicate, go too slow which is as bad as too fast, and very hesitant which in itself will cause accidents, and Toyota drivers especially the cab drivers who drive these Prius type things who are totally selfish and arrogant to other road users, they slow everyone up when there’s no fare and without any warnings just make 3 point turns in the middle of the road and please don’t get me started on smart car drivers more like not so smart drivers as just because they drive small cars they are always in a rush! And seem to think they have the right to try and get in front of any car or their up our backsides all the time because though we are adhering to the speed limit it’s obviously not fast enough for them! On my way to work today I counted 4 smart car drivers using no indicators or 1 also tailgated and that was in the 15 mins it took me to get there
I’d take this a stage further. It’s always the drivers of black BMWs and Audis, or white ones. For some reason the rude and arrogant drivers of these marques seem attracted to these colours!
… and the vast majority are blonde women [it’s so obvious that it has long been a standing joke with my wife – not blonde]
Guys, guys, relax and calm down. If you’ve not been on the roads in China you haven’t even begun to see poor driving believe me!
A rather more scientific analysis here. 5 of the top 10 are BMW/Audi but there’s also a Volvo:
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/96663/the-top-10-cars-most-likely-to-speed
Popular perception may not be scientific, but, as drivers, we’re all – well, most of us are – equipped with the power of observation, and if many of us individually are noticing that drivers of certain cars behave generally in a particular way, then they do. Forty years ago, whenever I was in a slow-moving line of traffic, I would bet myself that leading the pack was an Austin 1100, and nine times out of ten, it was. Different types of driver are drawn to certain types of car and have a certain “body language” when out on the road that you can anticipate and be prepared for – even when you see the sort of car, like BMW, that’s driven by a one-man extinction promoter.
Your right, I see the same, Honda jazz or them Peugeot van people carriers holding every one up. Used to be old lady in a brown metro.
Strange this. Lighthearted surveys may be, but my experience is that BMW and Audi do seem to be driven in a rather more arrogant way. Maybe that they do tend to be high powered and/or prestige cars has something to do with it: self confidence perhaps. Don’t know.
At the same time, do I sense that whenever you see a car being put on to a breakdown truck on the motorway there’s a good chance its a BMW. Rarely Audi, interestingly.
Are both of the above just our personal perceptions?
German cars are generally very boring in style,so not much to look at, hence my reason not buy.
My experience has been that Mercedes-Benz drivers tend to be incapable of pedalling fast enough to reach even urban speed limits. However, it’s equally possible that the slow ones are those who have immigrated and think that UK speed limits are set in km/hr, like their native lands’. After all, the style and design of most road signs has been harmonised, at least across Europe, for several decades.
you did well there but the fake international driving licence trade in for a full uk when a test has never been done ever by mandeep in india should never happen funny im watching police interceptors on telly in BRADFORD every stop crash or chase are ASIANS they think they can drive well always crash
the car they stolen fail a drug test have no license no insurance and are dunk with a bootfull of shoplifted champagne and razor blades still tagged
I think the association is backwards. It’s not that all BMW and Audi drivers are bad, it’s that arrogant, entitled idiots are more likely to buy a car they think reflects their importance. And, since BMW and Audi (among others) are considered “premium” cars, said idiots will gravitate towards these brands.
My experience has been that drivers of most big Mercedes-Benz saloons tend to be incapable of pedalling fast enough to reach even urban speed limits. In fact, it was a Mercedes-Benz driver (and petrolhead, surprisingly*) who pointed this trait out to me. However, it’s equally possible that those slow ones have immigrated and think that UK speed limits are set in km/hr, like their native lands’. After all, the sizes, styles and designs of most road signs have been harmonised, at least across Europe, for several decades.
*He was a former colleague and Secretary of the Pre-war Austin Seven Register at that time. He inherited a Mercedes-Benz saloon with automatic transmission and found it so comfortable that it was some time before he realised that he kept easing off his right foot, even when driving well below 30mph speed limits.
It’s a mathematical certainty that half of the users of any highway, whether they are pedestrians, equestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists or drivers of any kind, are below average. Don’t fret about your whether your wheel nuts may be loose, when it’s the loose nuts behind the wheels whom you should look out for and try to avoid.
I think it’s more like 80%.
As a BMW driver myself I agree the standard of driving by BMW drivers is generally poor
May I put my pennies worth into this page, it not just BMW or Audi drivers it’s all driver that miss use the mini roundabout.. Highway code state the vehicle ie. cars and SUV MUST pass around the centre mark. Not doing so attracts a CRIMINAL offence.
The film ‘MASK’ comes to mind when I see conversations about BMW and AUDI drivers. You may have noticed that ordinarily normal people climb into a German car and take on an alter ego.
My son is one of these people since buying an Audi A4… he turns into an absolute nutter behind the wheel and I might add has been chastised for it.
Also the film is funny at least.
It started in the nineteen seventies with an ad for the 2002 BMW . It said in your mirror “move over” .
BMW / Audi/ Mercedes…… all dead in a ditch!
The cost of indicator bulbs will go sky high after we leave their club!
My son passed his test just 6 months ago and has said he never wants an Audi. He found them to be the worst drivers while he was learning and does not want to be associated with that marque. I don’t have a particular dislike of any marque, just selfish drivers in general who don’t know what indicators are for, totally disregard speed limits near schools, blatantly go through red lights and drive so close they may as well sit in the rear seat of my car.
Perhaps it is the type of person that aspires to drive a BMW as the mark that they have “arrived”?
Sorry but the majority of cr8p arrogant drivers I see are those that drive German cars. The reason being is that most are bosses, sales people and well off people. These are the people that tend to have narcissistic characteristics.
Mercedes Benz owners/drivers are by far the worst when it comes to thinking they have the Devine right on the roads of this country !
I drive a BMW & locally a Hyundai I10. The difference in the way other drivers treat me is noticeable.
In the BMW X3 I am treated with all the normal courtesies,
In the I10, everyone seems to think they have the right to cut me up, tailgate me and generally try to force me off the road.
Sometimes it is almost frightening. The worst offenders seem to be the mid sized older cars.
Audi & BMW.drivers.all need teaching some manners. and how to drive,,ignorant b######s
As most germans are arrogant…especially on holiday places……they must spray the inside of their cars in the factory with some arrogant juice…and it rubs off when sold here to our drivers..lol….suprised they dont fit beach towels to all the seats.
Not many BMW vans driving up your rear and curring people up on roundabouts through?
Errmm … is there any point at all in this “article”? It just seems to be a negative, divisive, corrosive piece with no value whatsoever. A perfect example of the worst of what you can find on the internet these days. If the owners of this site had any sense, they’d just sack whoever wrote it. Somebody will no doubt come back and say “it’s just entertainment” or something. That would be true – if it were written in an amusing way but the wit factor here is hovering just above the too-small-to-be-detected mark.
Said it before and I’ll say it again, the standard of writing on this site has gone downhill drastically. One more chance I think, then I’ll give up.
I’d be interested to hear what no.2 was as it isn’t mentioned.
Ford was at number two
NSS.
Not all BMW drivers obviously, but as a brand BMW definitely has highest percentage of aggressive, tailgating, dangerous drivers of any brand on the road.
Couldn’t agree more. An Audi driver is sitting on our tail and has twice tried to overtake on a single carriageway winding road!
A few stereotypes…..
(not reflective of everyone though)
As noted, there are a few traits of or preconceived ideas of drivers.
Audis; often in a hurry with slower ones lacking in skill.
BMW; not so much a problem these days unless it is an X thing which throws up muck. Over endowed with self importance often but quite a few considerately driven cars also.
Citroen; not very switched on drivers.
Dacia; a bit pedestrian. Tend to reduce traffic flow.
Fiat; thumbs up from me. If we’re talking a potential date, style and lack of arrogance is another plus.
Ford; no strong thoughts mostly. Often driven by non-car types. Can be slow though.
Honda; I think newer Honda drivers must all have defective eyesight for more than 1 reason.
Hyundai; not usually not terrible unless it is the 4×4 tragedy (Trajet).
Jaguar; 4×4 crossover thing betrays self obsessed thinking.
Kia; the Asian Ford in all ways.
Land Rovers; I have no good comments about them or their drivers.
Mercedes Benz; the preserve of old men and divorced women. Many do not seem to have their mind on driving. Words like timeless and dependable no longer apply. Shame.
Mini; even worse than Land Rovers with the road sense of gerbils. Modified Minis are a welcome exception.
Nissan; populated by crossovers with Renault diesels. Mostly rather hesitant drivers but not erratic.
Peugeot; can be a bit mixed but generally no negativity. Can be a bit like Fiat. Drivers with style but no ideas above their station. Taxis excluded.
Renault; not too dissimilar to Fiat and Peugeot.
Range Rover; I’m sure some nice and considerate people drive these but I’ve never witnessed it.
Saab; nice cars no longer made which were used by intelligent people with good manners.
Seat; VW clone but often with the duality of people with the cluelessness of VW drivers yet still having substance and brio. A real mixed bag.
Skoda; probably where all the ex Saab drivers went to except the taxis which clog up the roads by virtue of erratic driving. Lack of snobbishness is a plus.
VW; usually no road sense drivers. Older ones smoke and smell badly. The cars are no better. Avoid at all costs.
Vauxhall; plenty of negative stereotypes but beyond that is not bad at all.
Volvo; a bit mixed. Many drivers are not bad but a would be eco warrior in a 2 ton leviathan is simply an imposter.
BMW and merc drivers think every one should get out of their way
A friend has a BMW as soon as the roads have ice on them he leaves it in the garage
Agreed! If it is a loony following you at up to 95mph , 3 feet from your bumper, on the outside lane, every one agrees that it is most likely to be a BMW.
Also, every madman who drives from the other side of the road’s kerb to join YOUR side, in front of you, is usually propelling a BMW.
And so on.
If a car’s doing 25 mph in a 20 mph speed limit, tailgating on an A-Road, ignoring a school pedestrian zone or doing 85 mph down the outside lane of the motorway, chances are it will be a BMW or an Audi.
Almost all the incompetent driving and the road rage would disappear tomorrow if BMWs and Audis were banned from our roads.
Imho, I’ve noticed in my town in Lincolnshire , a certain type of driver, driving an aging, say upto 15/20 year old Audi, BMW, Mercedes. And a good percentage drive them as though they’re entitled to drive arrogantly. Yesterday, a young guy in a 57plate Mercedes, right up behind me tailgating, I could see him moaning because I was sticking to the speed limit. No you will not make me go faster, you self entitled moron.
Now, again it’s only my opinion, but in certain parts of society, people think the badge is everything. Hence the aging car with the name. They sure as hell couldn’t afford a status symbol like that in their own country, but once they’ve earned enough here, a lot conform to the stereotype. Its shallow, really, and yet I’ve been laughed at because I’ve got a Dacia. Oh the irony. Why should I pay more for a name. I’ll spend my money on more important things
idk about german car hate.. maybe jealous ppl? I drive 10h a day and i see idiot ppl in EVERY brand.. from A to Z.. Audi and BMW isn’t worse than any other brand..
The worse drivers of all are Austin Princess owners.. Terrible.
I Don, t care who you are, UK drivers are getting more and more silly and very dangerous, its like you can, t control your self, if some on on the kerb sees you, you have got to flaw, wwhhyyyy???, why can, t you back off when driving, why can, t you just you control your baby emotional outbursts????, why do all seem to drive right in the middle of the road right on top of the white line, do even realise your steering into on coming traffic, if you cross that line you can be sued!, why is it you don, t check regular the passenger side mirror and realise you miles away from that side of the road, when over taking why do you not use mirrors when passing stationary traffic, why do you go nuts in built up areas, seriously I really want to know why you do this, what causes this, what makes you do it, I think your just looking for attention to what you do, which serves no purpose in any way, as all roads are public roads, not a race ciyrse, why do you direct your anger to good people, bon uk you go totally nuts at steering wheel, and when you go down a lane that is right turn only, just because you want to jump the que, everyone was there before you, don, t you realise this?, or is it you are nervous and that upset you feel compelled to upset everyone around you, and you get further upset when challenged by people have been waiting in line but you refuse to see the truth and this further makes you angry when you forget you caused the problem in the first place because you refused to join the back of the que ??????, its like people who park over exits on roundabouts, why?????, you have eyes you can see people trying to turn right or go straight on and yet you block the road anyway, that’s really silly, if you just practice at giving way to folk and leave a good gap will see the traffic keeps moving and not at a stand still, just simply give way to each other it really does solve the problem, I think its a case in uk bad attitudes as in why should I, or it’s not my problem, or I just don, t care that causes the problem, please people learn to give way to each other that’s it 1 simple action, ie giving way it’s really simple thing to do👌👌👌👌👌
[…] We reported last year that upmarket Audis seem to top the list of recognised speeders, and surprisingly, they're only third on the list of disliked drivers, with just 50% of respondents disliking them, although 71% said they felt that Audi drivers would be fast drivers. via […]
Most people who don’t like BMW drivers is down to the fact they can’t afford a nice car.
Yes I do have indicators and I do use them. I get really pissed off with people slagging off us BMW owners just because we like nice cars. I’m polite to other drivers and never tailgate other cars. So shut up and put up.
I am a BMW driver myself, I do drive quite fast down roads but eh I do it safely.
In my opinion it’s vauxhall driver’s that are the worst and any other brand. BMW, Audi/VW may appear more frequent tho for speed related bad driving but there’s also those who drive dangerously slow and have no defensive driving capabilities, it’s them, that pose the biggest risk.
I’m a BMW driver and drive very courteously, always use indicators, don’t follow too close, careful with horses and give bikes plenty of room etc, but when I try to change lanes on a motorway or anything really, people will beep and snarl with finger signs. I also drive a Kia picanto and don’t have the issue with people acting like pricks apart from people riding on my bumper and flashing their lights when I go slow through my village and other areas that require caution.
I think part of the problem is the jealousy and general bitterness towards these prestige motors. Acting erratically around another driver is sure to provoke a bad response. Just be respectful to all drivers regardless of their position in the hierarchy or their choice of car.
I chose a BMW because it looks good, drives great and helps with my bad back all while achieving excellent MPG and lots of pulling power. Not because I have narcissistic tendencies! It’s not that deep!
